It only took one glass of Ada's brew to prove to Rogue why humans liked their beer so much. It didn't taste as good as their own Ivory, but the end result was much more pleasant. His whole body felt warm as Effie plopped on her tiny bed, and smiled at him sitting in a rickety chair in the corner.

“You're half seas over, ain't ya?”

Rogue let out a half hiccup, half laugh.

“I will assume that means inebriated, in which case, you are correct. Now, tell me your plan before I am too... over the high seas to remember it.”

Effie shook her head and smiled at Rogue. He was so handsome, but now that he was relaxed and little drunk, and not wearing a worried expression, she finally noticed his smile. It made his whole face light up, in a way that she had never seen before. In this moment, he was stunning with masculine beauty.

His jawline was prominent and he had an aquiline nose that did indeed give his entire countenance a regal air. He had slight scruff along his chin, and his eyes had a depth and intelligence that shone through easily. His clothing still clung to him like a second skin, his sleeves rolled up to display strong forearms with a slight smattering of hair.

For an ‘alien’ he sure looked damned human… a damned fine specimen of a human at that. One of the girls had caught Effie’s sleeve in the hall and offered up that she’d be willing to give that one a turn for free. Effie had shaken her off and scowled at her, feeling suddenly jealous— a feeling she didn’t like. Had Rogue noticed the girl’s full breasts and come hither glances? Effie suddenly felt like the inexperienced girl she was.

Afraid she was getting distracted, and staring a little too openly at him, Effie shook off her own fuzziness and began to highlight the important parts of Chaney's history.

“Well, the short version of the story is that my pop is crazier than a prairie dog who got run over by a wheelbarrow. He's been living in the looney bin in Lost Springs since before I was born.”

Rogue's eyes narrowed. He raised a hand to stop Effie before she went on.

“I missed that when I analyzed you. What exactly is a 'looney bin,' as you said?” The universal translator was having difficulty. It kept giving him the word for a bird.

“Isn't the loon a type of bird?” he asked.

Effie burst out laughing.

“Yes, it's a bird I guess. But it's a hospital where they keep people who aren't right in the head. An asylum. For the insane.”

“Your father is insane?,” Rogue turned away, as if the mere mention of insanity were to be avoided at all costs.

Effie rolled her eyes.
