Resuming the fight: The Ten-Day campaign (8-18 July 1948)

Possessing the advantage of their more experienced troops, the Israelis changed their strategy by focusing more on the attack. Three operations were launched in ten days:

The Dani operation was aimed at the center of the country and intended to secure and enlarge the passage between Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv. The cities of Lydda and Ramle were recaptured, whereas those of Latrun and Ramallah resisted. The recapture of Lydda gave way to a huge massacre (although this is denied by Israel today): 250 civilians were supposedly killed and almost 70 % of the inhabitants driven out.

Operation Dekel took place in the north and was supposed to conquer Galilee in two stages. The first stage consisted of capturing the city of Nazareth, on 1 July, and the second involved capturing the villages surrounding the city. On 18 July, the Israelis occupied the whole of Southern Galilee.

Operation Kedem aimed to regain total control over Jerusalem and above all, over the Old Town neighborhoods that had been taken by the Transjordanians. However, the city remained Jordanian until 1967 (Six-Day War);
