Ayden is so excited to play, he conjures two easels, whiteboards, and markers before anyone else has even agreed to play. “Alright! Here’s how it’s gonna work. Old people versus young people.”

“Ayden!” Hudson scolds him.

“No offense?” he tells the parents but they don’t look placated. “What? I thought it was funny,” he grumbles. “Fine, how about team Rowe and Quinn versus team parents… and sister? We’ve got thirteen to your twelve, but two of ours are kids so I think it evens out.”

“Yes, well, we’re all much wiser than you youngins, so I’m sure we’ll be fine,” Momma Carrington savagely replies.

“Burn, Mom! We’ll see about that.” Ayden looks like he’s ready to go to war. We have eight competitive guys on our team, I hope this doesn’t lead to bloodshed. “Alright, one person from each team will come up. They’ll select a single card and have five seconds before time will start. You have one minute to draw. The first team to say the correct answer wins,” he explains the rules as he conjures a box of cards and lays them on the coffee table. Next, he waves his hand above the easels, his gold magic swirling in the air. Once it clears, I can see a big rectangular timer flashing sixty. “We need a designated timer starter,” he declares looking around for a volunteer.

“I’ll do it!” Violet squeals. “What do I do?” she asks, absolutely vibrating with excitement.

“Once someone draws a card, count to five then point to the timer and say ‘start’. That’s it,” Ayden instructs.

“I can do that!” she chirps, bouncing in her seat.

“Great! Who’s first?” He rubs his hands together and smiles like a maniac.

“None of us would dream of taking this away from you, Ayd. You can go first for our team,” Kayden says.

“I’ll go,” Momma Carrington says, getting up and walking over to her son.

“Wonderful. You can draw the card, Ma,” he tells her, holding the cards up to her with a big smile.

She rolls her eyes but pulls a card from the deck where only they can see.

“One… Two… Three… Four… Five!” Violet counts as they look at the card. She points her finger at the timer like Ayden said and cheers, “Start!”

The two drawers frantically begin their pictures while Violet jumps up and down giggling. Momma C draws some kind of pole with wires coming off of it as Ayden draws what looks like a lightning bolt. People shout random guesses but I can tell none are correct because they continue adding details to their pictures.

“Lightning! Storm! Thunder!” Tanner calls, guessing again as Ayden shakes his head with every guess.

“Power lines!” Momma H calls out.

Not able to say anything, Momma C points at her and circles her hand, telling her she’s on the right track to keep going.

“Electricity!” Kayden shouts before Momma H could continue her guessing.

“Yes!” Ayden cheers, punching his fist in the air. He walks over to his twin and gives him a high-five before taking his seat as Kayden takes his turn drawing.
