Things moved fast at Camp All-America after that eventful night. The days passed swiftly, too swiftly for Jimmie and Frankie. They worked feverishly at football and moaned and groaned about books and school and haircuts and new clothes and certain teachers who should have been bus drivers and vice versa.

Closing day arrived all too soon; the parking lot was filled with cars, and parents were all over the place. The pageant was beautiful, and as always, Philip Whittemore's diving was the climax to the waterfront show, summer friendships, and the season.

Camp was over.

As the cars and buses carried their passengers away from Camp All-America, many hearts were filled with the sadness that always comes at parting time and the end of a happy summer.

Jimmie and Frankie shadowed Chip every second of those last days, strangely quiet, their spirits dampened by the shadow of summer good-byes. But Jimmie made sure Chip and Whitty had a lift to New York City. And he managed to say good-bye to Whittemore when he learned Whitty was going home with Chip for a few days before reporting to State's football training camp at a place they called Camp Sundown. As the car passed under the red-white-and-blue wooden arch of Camp All-America, Jimmie and Frankie waved, and Jimmie shouted, "Dad says we'll be up for the first game, Chip. You better be the starting quarterback! And, Whitty, you better be on the receiving end of Chip's passes!"
