Matt’s mouth was warm and gentle against her own. Ali was too shocked to step away, or even respond. She told herself that this wasn’t really happening, it couldn’t be. Matt Baker kissing her? In what lifetime?

Then she began to notice the little things… like the heat of his body, despite his damp clothes, and the way he tasted of expensive Scotch. She’d never been much of a Scotch drinker, but she was starting to see the appeal. He hadn’t shaved that morning, and the stubble burned her face, but she found she liked the friction against her sensitive skin.

He wrapped his arms around her and drew her close. She went willingly, probably because she was too startled to protest. Okay, maybe a little because it felt nice to be in a man’s arms. It had been a very long time. She’d forgotten what it felt like to be pulled next to a hard, hot body and for the moment feel completely safe.

Slowly, knowing she was crazy, or he was, she raised her arms and wrapped them around his neck. His clothes were wet, dampening her dress. Her low heels gave her an inch or so of extra height, but even so she had to raise her chin to continue to meet his mouth.

His kiss was slow and sensual, his lips brushing against hers over and over. He didn’t attack or press her too soon. When his tongue swept against her lower lip, she had the feeling he was exploring rather than insisting. He traced the shape of her mouth, then made her shiver by nibbling at the very corner.

She supposed she should pull away before things got out of hand, but she found she didn’t want to. As his hands slid up and down her back, she shuddered slightly as nerve endings began to come to life. When he reached lower and cupped her rear end, she instinctively arched against him, bringing her belly up against the hardness of his arousal.

She’d expected him to be interested in the proceedings, but she hadn’t thought he would be so very ready. The information was just one more shock in a list of many, but in a good way. She found herself wanting to rub up and down, feeling the length and breadth of him. Her hips thrust forward in an age-old invitation she couldn’t control any more than she could stop breathing. A sound caught in the back of her throat. She parted her lips to let it escape… and at the same time allowed Matt to enter her.

His tongue swept inside her mouth. He went from tender explorer to masterful seducer in less than a heartbeat. There was something about the way he kissed, or the taste of him, or maybe it was an unexplained chemistry between them. She didn’t know and, at this moment, she didn’t care about what it was. She only knew it was happening, and she never wanted him to stop.

He brushed against her, exploring, tempting, exciting.
