Isis and Newman continued their conversation on the deck of the suite. Jahmir stood with his arms folded in the kitchen doorway. I placed the leftover food in the fridge, not sure how to start a conversation. During our first meeting on the beach, I hadn’t been as nervous to talk to him, but now I felt like an awkward teenager, wondering who would make the first move.

Leaning against the counter, I tug my shoes off one by one, leaving them near the door of the bedroom, and remove my purse.

“How long are you going to be silent?” Jahmir challenged, with a smirk and a sparkle in his eyes.

A whirl of emotions started to change after he stretched his legs wide, and I saw his large muscles and full lips. From the doorway, he stalked forward and stepped in front of me, brushing a hand against my cheek.

He’s teasing me.

“I’m taking it all in from tonight.” Having him so close and the scent of his cologne had me in a trance.

Jahmir tugged on my hair, slowly running his fingers down my arm, then lifted my hand to kiss my palm.

“My parents liked you.”

I shot him a scowl while squinting. “Did we sit at the same table?”

He chuckled, studying me with his piercing gaze. “Baby, I can promise you they liked you because I like you.” He gave me a subtle wink.

“When will the results come back?”

“In a day or two.”

“Okay, once that happens, we can make a plan to figure out the best co-parenting schedule that works for everyone.”

Angling his body to stand on the side of me, he slipped his hands in his pocket. “Venus, are you afraid?”

“No, I know you’re my son's father.”

“Not that, I’m talking about being a parent? It’s still new for me to wrap my mind around.”

I cast my eyes to his face and smiled. “You have nothing to worry about. I can see you being one of those dads at the games, yelling at the coach if they don’t let your son play.”

We both burst into laughter. “I want to have lunch with you tomorrow—just the two of us,” he announced.

“Okay.”

“Newman will put a rush on the results, but I want us to really get to know each other.”

“I agree, now that I know your last name.”

“That reminds me, I have a trip to London in a few months to check out the status of my hotel.”

“You will probably miss the birth.”

“Unless you come with me.”

“To London?”

“Yeah, we can set up shop there before it gets too late for you to travel… or you can stay here.”

“Jahmir—”

Raising his hand, he interrupted, “Hear me out, money is not an issue, you can get to know me better and I can get to know you, plus once the baby comes, your parents can come here and meet my family.”

“What about my work?”

“Aren’t you the one who said you can do your job anywhere?”

“You’re basically asking me to uproot my life, Jahmir.”

Angling his head, he glanced down at me.
