“For the wedding, we’ll need strings of white lights—fairy lights—to illuminate the landscaping and trees around the pool,” Ivy said, tapping her fingers on the table in the library.

Poppy nodded, taking notes. “Any other types of lighting?”

“Better coordinate with Shelly on that. She’s in charge of landscape and exterior, and she has more event experience than I do. Have you seen her this morning?”

“Yoga class ran over, but I left early. I didn’t stay for Savasana, the last asana.” When Ivy looked blank, Poppy added, “The relaxing pose. Also called the corpse pose.”

“That’s my favorite,” Ivy said. She lived for that flat-on-the-back pose at the end. Sometimes she even drifted to sleep.

Poppy smiled. “Well, Gilda can be chatty afterward.”

“Speaking of Gilda, let’s get some chew toys for Pixie,” Ivy said. “Maybe the poor pup is just bored.”

“Why?”

Ivy hadn’t told Poppy about the jewels she and Shelly had just found, though she trusted her niece. “We’ve found something,” she began, but before she could continue, the front door chimes rang.

Poppy hurried to answer the door. When she returned, her eyes sparkled with curiosity.

“Chief Clarkson is here for you,” Poppy said, standing at the entry to the library.

“Come in. And close the door, Poppy. But you should stay.” Ivy held her hand out to the chief. “I’m glad you could come so quickly.” When he shook her hand, her fingers nearly disappeared in his beefy hand.

“Bennett mentioned you’ve uncovered another one of the Erickson’s secret stashes,” he said, his deep voice filling the library.

“This one is different.” Ivy reached for her phone to share photos of the jewelry that she and Shelly had taken last night. “I’ll email these to you.”

The chief studied the photos. “These items are here?”

“In my room.”

Poppy watched the exchange with wide eyes, straining to see the images on the phone.

The chief squinted at the hallmark photos. “Are they secure?”

“I think so.” Rolled up in towels. Ivy bit her lip. She’d have to do better than that. She’d check with her bank about a safety deposit box.

“Since these items might be related to the paintings, I’ll pass this on to Ari at the FBI,” Chief Clarkson said. “He might wish to visit again.”

Ivy nodded. She hoped he would come before the wedding. Their client wanted everything to be perfect, and so did Ivy and Shelly. This was their first event, and Caroline Jefferson knew an awful lot of VIPs.

“Would you like to see the pieces?” Ivy asked.

“I’ll need to for the report,” the chief replied.

As they left the library, they ran into Gilda, who was meandering through the hallway. “Hi, Chief. What brings you here today? Anything wrong?”

Ivy knew they should have taken the rear staircase. Her heart sank. Within the hour, Gilda and the Java Beach crowd would be speculating on what the chief of police was doing at Seabreeze Inn. And that would give Darla more ammunition for her lawsuit.

“Just paying a friendly visit,” he said.

“We like to make sure our guests are safe,” Ivy said, fumbling for an answer.
