She found her dad in front of the television watching a baseball game.

“Hey, Dad.” She took a seat opposite him.

“Good game,” he replied without tearing his eyes away from the screen.

“I wanted to talk to you about the business.”

“Mmm-hmm.”

“I’m going to pick up the deposit check for the job. I intend to open a new account with the money and transfer what is necessary to get the business out of the red. I’m also going to need your list of outside contractors to see if there is anyone I want to use.”

He pursed his lips and finally looked at his daughter. “You seem to have it all figured out. I knew you would.” He offered a half smile. “Should probably talk to your brother about the contractors.”

Lexington rolled her eyes in frustration and pushed up from the seat. “Fine.” She walked out unwilling to engage in a no-win battle with her father, as it was clear that he had already checked out. Retired. She would do everything in her power to save the family business. At least then she could return to Paris without a guilty conscience. What would happen to the business when she left? She’d figure it out. Like she always did.

She returned upstairs to get ready.
