After Sean and Alastair were gone, Violet sighed as she rubbed her forehead. She closed her eyes and tried not to think about how her heart had leaped in her chest when Alastair announced she was hot in bed.

Listeria leaned on the table and smirked. “Wow, Violet. Alastair practically called you a Stone Cold Crone. That’s not a good stripper name, but it does suit you.”

“Listeria,” Katherine chastised in a hissed whisper. “You’re supposed to be supportive of Violet, not take sides in her marital spat with Alastair.”

“Who’s taking sides? I’m merely stating what everyone knows is the truth,” Listeria denied.

Violet’s eyes popped open. She looked at her coven. “On a scale of ten with ten being the coldest, how cold do you think I am?”

“Ten,” Listeria answered with a smirk.

“Ignore Listeria. You’re an eight at most,” Katherine replied, smiling to soften her answer.

“Eight minimum?” Violet said with a dry laugh as she shook her head. “Thanks, Katherine. Guess I know what you and Listeria will carve on my gravestone.”

Violet watched the women she considered sisters dissolving into wicked giggles. They were laughing, but beneath their mature humor at her expense was something they hadn’t shared with her before today.

Oh, she knew she could be a standoffish ball buster sometimes, but everyone in her life calling her stone cold was harsh.
