Chapter 8

Jake spent the first part of his morning talking with Mark on the phone, reassuring his friend that everything had gone wonderfully and that he’d behaved like a gentleman—a randy gentleman. Now he sat at his desk with the Fortuna case file, lightly humming to himself. Try as he might, his mind kept wandering from the information before him to an image of his Adam asleep earlier that morning. He’d looked so peaceful yet so damn sexy; the tented covers only partially covering the exquisite body. Jake had been so aroused that he’d barely thought about how he’d pushed the blanket aside and taken Adam’s hard dick into his mouth. It’d felt so good to wrap his lips around the large member, the taste of the man so strong, almost overwhelming.

His mind shifted to his admission of his feelings for Adam the previous night. Jake knew he felt deeply toward this beautiful man. He knew he wanted to continue building “something” with Adam but what that something was, he couldn’t easily identify.

Obviously it’s too early to be love…isn’t it? Shit, I feel so good around the man, like I want to be the best person I can be for him. This doesn’t make sense. What does make sense is that he’s hot as fuck. Yeah, but this is so much more than just a great lay—and he’s definitely a great lay. Can’t wait to feel that big cock of his in my…

“Someone’s in a good mood this morning.” One of Jake’s colleagues laughed as he walked past Jake’s desk, startling the detective.

“You drop the soap in the gym shower again?” said another as he high-fived the first.

“Yeah, McConnell, tell your dad he was real good last night,” Jake teased back, “but he left his dentures in my bathroom.”

Everyone laughed.

“Leave the boy alone,” Netter piped in. “He’s just happy to be here. Right, O’Malley?”

“Sure. Couldn’t wait to see everyone’s happy, shiny faces this morning.”

Jake’s phone interrupted the good-natured ribbing.

“O’Malley.”

“Detective, there’s an Adam Huntington here to see you.”

Jake’s heart sped up. “I’ll be right there.” He hung up, closed the Fortuna file, and leaped from his chair.

“Guess that was good news.” Officer McConnell snickered.

“Real good news!” Jake grinned as he hurried to the stairs.

A few steps before the bottom, the detective stopped to collect himself. No need to go rushing in like a silly schoolgirl.

With deliberate casualness he walked down the rest of the stairs and turned the corner into the general lobby of the station house and grinned to see Adam sitting against the wall with a bag in his lap.

So fucking gorgeous!

“Hey, nice to see you,” Jake said, pulling Adam in for a kiss.

Anytime he could wrap his arms around this man was a good time, and Jake planned to take as many opportunities as possible to engage in a good time with Adam.

Adam sounded a bit breathless when he stepped back. “Wow. You feel…a little padded or something.”

“Huh? Oh, yeah. I’m wearing my bulletproof vest. These new ones are extra thin so they don’t show as much, not like the old bulky ones.
