Chapter 9
evon stepped through the door of Isabellaâs and searched the interior. A movement across the Droom drew his gaze and he smiled. Raising one hand, he waved at Marty, then strode into the interior of the restaurant. His stomach fluttered as though he were nervous about seeing Marty again. For an instant, he questioned the feeling. It wasnât the first time he had had a sexual encounter with a man. Damn! He was gay after all.
And his sexual exploration had begun in high school with a classmate. Tommy Rollins. Tommy had been fun. Their secretive liaisons had thrilled him at first, but then Tommy became possessive of him, jealous if he even looked at another guy, and soon it ended. He dashed the thoughts as he wove his way amid the tables at the restaurant in lieu of meeting Marty and having an engaging evening.
He was aware of the heat of Martyâs gaze as he neared the table where he sat. The smoldering look in his inky black eyes sent shards of raw 48

sexual need traversing through his insides. By the time he reached the table, his knees were weak and he needed to sit down.
âIâve thought about you all day.â His voice sounded breathy as though he had been jogging and needed to rest. He swallowed, noticing how dry his throat felt. Damn! This guy really has an uncanny effect on me.
A wide smile stretched across Martyâs handsome face. He reached one hand over to grasp Devonâs right knee. âIâve thought about you all day, too.â He chuckled. âWe sound like love-sick teenagers, donât we?â
Devon smiled and lowered his hand to place atop Martyâs. He closed his fingers and gave it an affectionate squeeze. âI admit, you have my emotions running wild.â He felt embarrassed suddenly, having divulged his most inner thought to Marty. He glanced away, turning his gaze out over the patrons of the restaurant as he wondered how Marty would respond to his confession.
âNo more than mine, I assure you.â
Devon quickly glanced at Marty. The lust he had hoped to see in his dark eyes was all too prevalent. He drew in a quick breath and inched his body a bit closer to Martyâs. Aware that he had to be in control of his emotions in publicâhis reputation as a business man could suffer if unorthodox rumors were to start circulatingâhe 49

glanced around the restaurant in search of familiar faces. Finding no one that he readily knew, he relaxed a bit and reached for the menu. âI could use a drink.â
Marty withdrew his hand from Devonâs leg as the waitress crossed the room in their direction and Devon felt a chill of regret settle inside his body. He had waited all day for Martyâs touch and now that he had experienced it and had it taken away so abruptly, he found he had to stifle an audible moan.
They ordered beers and spaghetti and watched the waitress walk toward the kitchen. The restaurant was known for its good food and service.
