A fable appears in both the Koran and the Talmud concerning a flying carpet owned by the prophet Sulayman bin Daud (the Bible’s King Solomon the Wise).

“It was of green sandal embroidered with gold and silver and studded with precious stones, and its length and breadth were such that all the Wise King’s host could stand upon it, the men to the left and the djinns to the right of the throne; and when all were ordered, the Wind at royal command raised it and wafted it wither the Prophet would, while an army of birds flying overhead canopied the host from the Sun.”
