Chapter 16

“Thank you thank you thank you!” I say. I thought Arthur would have put up more of a challenge before saying yes.

“Yeah yeah yeah. Now get out of here. I need to do some preparations to get started on your project.”

“Alright,” I say, “see you in a week then?”

“Sure,” Arthur grumbles. I take out a piece of paper and write my phone number on it.

“Here,” I hand Arthur the paper, “It’s my cell number incase you want my help. Or for when you finish. Whatever comes first.” He takes the paper, shoving it in his pocket.

“Yeah. Now get,” he says with a nod of his head. I walk outside, feeling good with myself. So far things have gone well today. Let’s hope that doesn’t change. I walk around the market district for a while, looking at all the random shops. I pass by one that’s a Sky Rider store. I walk inside and look at all the models. They have all sorts of paint jobs. One has bubbles, one has a weird face on it, and one even has flames on it. I turn when I see a giant podium in the middle of the room. On the podium is a Sky Rider labeled as the current best model. It’s the same one that Jinn gave me.

While pondering Jinn’s generosity, I hear a commotion. I run outside, looking for where the sound could be coming from. I don’t run, but I walk purposefully through the streets. I hear the sound of glass shattering. What is going on?

Stop. Stop right where you are. Dac says in my head.

What? Why do you want me to stop randomly? I don’t feel like looking as if I’m a psycho.

Not that, Dac says, I know what you’re doing. You’re looking for whatever is going on. Don’t get in another fight. Please keep this as a good day. I’m getting a body in a week!

I’m not going to get in another fight. I think back.

If you keep looking for one, you will. As Dac is finishing what he is saying, I turn the corner to where Jinn and I fought a small group of New Power trainees a while ago. This time, there are more. There are about eight New Power goons, and they don’t look like trainees. Seven of them have a familiar uniform on. They wear a helmet, which is similar, but the dead giveaway is the giant taser staffs and the red stripe running down their outfits.

Also, instead of two people fighting them, there is just one. And it’s a girl? The girl is wearing all black. Black t-shirt, black jeans, black studded bracelet. She picks up a dropped sword. Blood is running from her temple and she has a bloody lip. She fends off as many of the New Power creeps as she can for as long as she can, but before long she gets zapped again. The guy that zapped her whips his staff around and cracks her in the side.
