Chapter 24
Sinclair
After our little pow wow, Chase takes me back home. Not that I left him much of a choice because I threatened to cut him. He thought that was funny because all I had on me was a skulls and bones bikini. I desperately wanted to head back and he knew exactly why and didnât waste any time getting me there.
The bike ride back from his oasis was just as liberating as our swim. My hair is completely windblown and my body is achingly aware of having Bones vibrating between my legs for hours on end. Not to mention, after the way Chase and I shamelessly groped each other my body is in need for release just not with him.
We pull up to my house and Chase parks the bike. He helps me off and grabs my bag following close behind me. I trudge up the stairs to open my front door and stop mid-step when I see the single rose on the welcome mat. Shit! I bend over and swipe it up then toss it over the porch rails watching it land in the shrubs along with all the others that Iâve tossed out. Chase shoots me a confused look as he takes in my bizarre behavior.
âWas that from Jackson?â He asks.
âNo. Cass knows I hate flowers. As soon as a flower is clipped it starts to die. That whole concept is depressing and makes me sad.â I say.
âWell, thatâs good info. So, whoâs it from Sunshine?â
âIâm not sure.â I shrug my shoulders and push my door open. Tossing my keys on the counter, I turn around and take the bag that Chase is carrying with my wet bathing suit inside and place it on the counter too. âThanks for the suit. I really love it.â He smirks at me.
âIt was a present for me too and your welcome but donât change the subject.â He slowly closes the space between us and leans into my face. Those royal blue accents are sparkling back at me. âIf you donât know who dropped the rose on your doorstep then thatâs a situation and not a good one to have.â His voice is calm, but I can hear the underlining cut to it. Chase is a dominating force that demands control through details. If my heart didnât belong to another it would be so easy to open up and take everything he has to offer. âHow long has that been going on?â
âFor a while, I guess.â
The crazy thing about my friendship with Chase is that I find it easier telling him things that I keep from Cass. Cass will throttle through you a couple of times until he can holster his anger. Only then, will he round back to you for details and even thatâs a tossup. You could very well get your ass handed to you again. Donât get me wrong, Cass has never put his hands on me in a violent way but he can be a force to deal with mentally when he goes into protective mode.
