CHAPTER 7

here was some semblance of peace now that I had made that call to Simon. He was no longer texting incessantly. He came to the house often to take his son out, and completely avoided conversations with me the entire time which was fine with me. If he wanted to hate me for the rest of my life, I had absolutely no objections.

He had left me to train that boy on my own, and with everything I went through, he had no right to return and ask for custody. Now that I had backed him into a corner, I had to find a strategy to talk sense into his head, steal his phone, or something else. I just wanted the nightmare to be over. As long as he still had these pictures of me, the nightmare was only just beginning.

I also had the issue of Addy that weighed on my mind. I knew I had felt something during our kiss, but for some reason, it felt very unnecessary to admit that to her. I didn't consciously know why she kissed me the way she did. More importantly, why had I kissed her and let her touch me? Why had it felt like it was the first time I was being touched in my life?

As I thought of her, my lower abdomen began to flip. Yeah, the thought of her was making me horny. I needed to stop thinking about her so that I could think of all the things that were pissing me off, especially the fact that Simon had taken Ethan out all day and wasn't back yet. He was supposed to be back by three o’clock, and he was now fifteen minutes late. Yes, maybe I was being paranoid, but the fact that he had just threatened me about my kid had put me in a constant defensive stance with him when it came to Ethan. Just as I was about to send a stinker of a text message, Simon pulled into the driveway with my son.

Usually, whenever he came to drop Ethan, he never spoke to me, he just stayed in the car while Ethan ran to meet me at the door, chattering and taking my mind off his father. Today, however, things were a little different. He parked, and instead of doing the usual and driving off, he came from the car, walked Ethan, and stopped at the door to say hello to me.

As soon as he walked up to me, my heart rate increased. This didn't happen because I was in love with him. It happened because I was afraid. Had he come up with something else? Was there another trick up his sleeves? Had he found another way to steal my son from me?

As all of these thoughts swam in my mind, he put his hand in his pocket and offered me peanut M&Ms. I had been obsessed with peanut M&Ms when I was a teenager. That was the only thing I ate for lunch for two weeks.
