Melania Stone was having a long day. She had just come back from vacation, and the list of emails she had not replied to seemed to have gotten longer since she arrived this morning. Her division was South Europe. It had something to do with her choosing Italian language to major in and then living in the Rome campus of her university. But mostly, because she liked the food and culture. Developing assets in Italy sounded a lot better than doing it in Baghdad.

Today, it seemed like a bad idea. A CIA agent had been killed in London. The ripples of enquiry had spread all over Europe, and Italy, especially south Italy with its highly porous borders and proximity to North Africa. She had to contact all her assets in Italy one by one, seeing if they knew anything. It was painstaking, and she was exhausted.
