Silas bathed me.

I sat in the middle of the huge bathtub while Silas sat on the floor next to it, using a small clay cup to pour water on my skin.

We didn’t say anything for a while; we just sat there in contented silence.

I thought about all that had happened. After they had taken me, we lay there on the couch while the brothers took turns holding me close to them. Comforting me, praising me. Telling me how good I had done, when they had done most of the work.

I had imagined something like this should have made me feel used.

I didn’t feel used.

I felt…

Empowered.

In control.

And what’s more, I felt cherished by them.

“What happens now?” I asked Silas.

He paused mid-move, the cup of water in the air. He stared deeply into my eyes, not saying anything for a beat.

Then, “Now, we go home.”

Home with them. Home was the place I had run away from. Home was… it was good, and it was bad. There were times when I wanted to run as far away from them as possible. And other times, especially during my time at the motel, I had yearned for it.

I blinked down at the water, taking in the suds floating on top.

I played with one, moving it around the water.

“Home,” I repeated.

Silas leaned over and kissed my cheek. “Home.”

“That sounds good.”

I felt him smile against my skin. “Perfect.”
