I PACED AROUND THE room trying to figure out what to do with myself. If I was back home I would head to the gym or the field and get in some training with the team.

I thought about going to the gym, but I didn’t know when Wade was going to show up. It was probably better to wait here than go roaming around the ship. Besides, the main reason I would be going to the gym would be to work off the sexual tension that was kicking my ass right now.

No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t get Bridgette’s face or her words out of my mind. What was crazier was that I didn’t feel the guilt I knew I should for thinking about her. Was it possible she was right? Could I be happy again someday?

I fell back on the couch and let my head rest against the back. My mind thinking back to how amazing she looked today, but more than that, I couldn’t stop thinking about the way Felicity had completely embraced her. The two of them standing there this afternoon with her family had been priceless. Anyone looking at them would think they could be mother and daughter.

The thought pierced me, but it didn’t bring the hurt I was expecting, or the sadness. Instead there was a longing I had never felt before.

How much longer did I have with Felicity before she built her own life? I mean there were less than ten years before she went off to college. Then what? Would she move out of town? Get married and have a family of her own? Would they spend the holidays with his family and not me? I could see myself waiting at home alone wishing there was someone with me. Wishing I hadn’t pushed everyone away.

A vision of Bridgette next to me filled my mind. Her soft smile and warm eyes looking over at me. Her gentle hand in mine. Perhaps another daughter visiting with hair the same color as hers or a son that I could toss around the football with. I bet she’d make an excellent mother. There were moments I could already see it with Felicity.

The guilt came back, but it was tampered slightly by that new longing. A desire to maybe have Bridgette in our lives for good.

The knock on my door surprised me. I jumped up and went over to open it. Wade stood there with a gaming console.

“I think I’m early, but I thought it would be easiest to set everything up before the girls got back.” He held up the game in his hand.

“Sure.” I nodded and moved aside to let him in. “I’m glad you could do it today.”

“Talk to my sister.” He shook his head. “Between her and Darby, I don’t know which one is the boss of me.”He let out a laugh. “Nope. I take that back. It’s definitely my mom.”

I laughed with him. “Well, come on back.” I walked into the back area of the suite that was set up like a movie theater.
