Chapter 8
Back at the safehouse, Mikaeyel slowly paced back and forth in front of the bed into which Rakiyel had so lovingly tucked a still unconscious Filia. He remained silent as the healer angelâs glowing hands slowly moved over Filiaâs body inch by painstaking inch, ridding her of any injuries her body may have endured during her encounter with the demonic horde. All the while Gylbriel and Ubriel busied themselves with reinforcing the protective wards, Mikaeyelâs eyes were focused upon the delicate face; and, the warrior angel could not help but take in every single detail from the adorable point of her chin and the graceful line of her jaw, to her rosebud lips and the elegant line of her nose.
âWould you please stop that?â Rakiyel asked in a soft, but firm voice while keeping himself focused upon his task. âI understand that youâre still tightly wound after the encounter, but your pacing is putting me on edge.â
âApologies,â Mikaeyel uttered with a sigh before resigning himself to walk to the side of the bed that was opposite Rakiyel and sit upon the edge. âYouâre right⦠I am tightly wound,â he remarked with a deep frown. âOur arrival and rescue was too close for comfort. We almost lost her before we even found her, and I will never be at peace with that.â
âWhy not, instead, focus on the positive?â Rakiyel asked calmly. âWhile it was a close call, we did find her. We saved her before the demons could get their hands on her, and we now have her safely by our side.â He smiled serenely then. âI understand that you are a warrior at heart, brother, but you should allow yourself a moment to enjoy our victory.â
Mikaeyelâs frown remained. âIt is a victory we should have celebrated much sooner,â he muttered before reaching out and gently resting a hand upon Filiaâs closest one. Slowly, his frown began turning upwards into a small smile. âEven so, I cannot deny the joy I feel simply from being by her side.â
Rakiyel nodded, and his smile grew. âThe feeling is mutual, my brother,â he murmured before placing his hands in his lap just as Ubriel and Gylbriel entered the room.
âHow is she?â Ubriel asked as he came to stand at the foot of the bed. His brow was furrowed with concern as he gazed down at the unconscious figure who, at that moment, looked so utterly helpless and vulnerable.
âHer body is not hindered by any injuries that cannot be cured by a little rest after the attention I have just finished paying it,â Rakiyel replied. âI have healed the internal damage that occurred from the strain of a mortal body wielding the powers of a celestial being. Itâs done. I have taken care of it⦠have done all the heavy lifting, as it were. Now, all her body needs is rest,â he added while raising his hands and lightly touching them to Filiaâs temples. âHer mind, on the other hand, is another matter entirely,â he uttered with a wince after closing his eyes.
