Data Replication for High Availability
A few basic types of data replication methods are available with SQL Server 2016: snapshot replication, transactional replication, and merge replication. Each is used for different user scenarios, and there are variations of each for specific purposes. (We don't get into all the variations in this chapter because they are not all for high availability.) After we look at the replication types, we'll look at a publisher, distributor, and subscriber metaphor.
