Reason #37

Luke: Here’s another one. You’re too dramatic.

Grace: I see it as a positive thing.

Luke: How?

Grace: It compensates for your constantly frowning face.

“Do you think clouds looks down on us and think that one is shaped like an idiot?” I ask Joy as both of us are squinting at the rubbish in front us with pursed lips.

“If you’re referring to the sheer ridiculousness in front of us, then yes, yes they definitely look at our parents and think that,” she answers without taking her eyes off our mom who just placed a thousand dollar bet that dad can out-naked Sammy—aka Samuel Colson, aka Luke’s father.

Believe it or not, an hour ago when I arrived at my parents’ house, this was a very sweet, polite neighborly gathering and I was as happy as ever to spend some time with my family, seeing as Joy finally made it tonight too. Plus, Alec and Hope showed up, announcing they are officially dating and sending our mothers into euphoria and wedding planning, and I was genuinely so happy for them.

That lasted all of ten minutes until the man I am definitely not dreaming about every night right after bringing myself to an explosive O, showed up wearing a freaking navy Henley that clung to his chest like second skin, and brings out the blue of his ocean eyes. A pair of dark jeans cling to his ass even better than that shirt does his torso and that thick black leather watch he seems to always have on, on his arm.

Maybe it was a mistake evading him for over a week because all of a sudden, he seems so much hotter now. His shoulders seem broader, straining against that long sleeve shirt. His hair is a sexy disheveled mess, and that stubble on his face is more of a beard now.

The only not sexy part about that man is an unreadable expression on his face that is very far from friendly directed at—you guessed it—me.

I don’t even understand why he’s looking at me like I’m the enemy here. I’m doing everything he asked of me. I’m staying away and, apart from that non-fire emergency, I made sure to not cross paths with him.

So, what’s his deal now? He used to call me a fetus because I was younger than him, well guess who's the child here now. But if he wants to stare at me like that, by all means, do so. I might not be a hundred-dollar bill, but I am still darn pretty to look at.

Yeah, my sarcasm has tipped into unhinged realm, but a girl can only take so much, okay?

And to make it all that much sweeter, my own father just insinuated that Luke and I are an item when he announced that he needs a shotgun to intimidate his three sons-in-law.

“Dad, since when do you have three sons-in-law? Hell, since when do you have one son-in-law, period?” Joy asks with a heavy sigh.
