Praying from the Unseen

OUR SPIRITUAL MATURITY is never any greater than our relationship with the Holy Spirit. He is central to all things pertaining to becoming Christlike. One of the greatest tools of the believer is the ability to recognize the Spirit of God at work in any given situation. A partnership develops from the awareness of the One who by nature will only lead us into health and strength in our families. By the way, Jesus is called the Eternal Father in Scripture (see Isaiah 9:6), which gives us a glimpse into Jesus’ ability to seamlessly represent the Father in all things. And the Eternal Father really knows how to do family.

Having said that, I want to add that anointed prayers are very similar to authentic prophetic words. Both come from the Holy Spirit, have their roots in the Word of God and reveal His heart for the immediate moment. It is important to learn to recognize prayers that attract the Holy Spirit.

We have the privilege and responsibility to pray over our children. Praying prayers that the Holy Spirit says amen to is one of the greatest joys ever. In doing so, we become involved in bringing the heart, as well as the hand, of God to our families. Learning to recognize the Holy Spirit’s response to what you pray helps bring exponential increase to the effectiveness of your prayers. I recognize His response often through an increased awareness of His presence, which is usually manifested through a dramatic increase of peace. And then, sometimes, I am able to recognize His amen by what I call inspired thoughts. This is usually where He takes me deeper into a prayer direction with greater insight than I would have had normally. It basically means that I just had an idea that is better than one I could have come up with myself. I often end up praying something that I had no knowledge of until that moment—praying from the unseen. For me, this is another sign that I am praying anointed prayers.

If you will keep prayer a two-way conversation, you will discover the beauty of prayers inspired by the Holy Spirit. By learning to recognize Him in your prayers, you will be entrusted with the honor of revealing His heart at a whole new level. Whenever we discover that great treasure, we see where we can co-labor with the Lord to see His purposes in our family line. This kind of praying takes time, insight and persistence. He is moved by this in a profound way and adds the weightiness of His presence to it all.
