RECEPTIVITY AS A FEMININE SUPERPOWER
When our senses are alert, we are present, right here, right now, and we become much more open to receiving. Whether itâs a compliment from your partner, the offer of help and support, an afternoon nap, a gift given with love or an uninterrupted nightâs sleep, receiving can be deeply difficult for many of us. We often feel like we have to âgiveâ (so that we can be seen as good) and âdoâ (so that we can be seen as productive), and that the act of receiving is somehow passive, vulnerable, indulgent and/or lazy.
Not true.
Receptivity is a feminine superpower. Yep, instead of following the masculine/capitalist model of going out into the world, hustling, attention-seeking, being over-productive and often burning out in the process â when youâre open to receive, you allow yourself to be met, exactly where you are. When I think of receptivity, I think of Cleopatra, laying on a chaise longue, simply being bloody glorious. Sheâs just had a lovely luxe milk bath, sheâs put on her favourite ensemble, all the while whispering to herself: âYou are glorious, you are bountiful, you are powerful, you are whole.â She has enlivened all her senses and sheâs now open to receive.
Receptivity doesnât mean simply laying around waiting for something to happen, Cleo style. When youâre connected to source and youâre resourced, your sensorial nature is alert and youâre able to really sense, meet, respond to and then tend to your own needs. And when youâre not frantically doing, youâre able to create space at your centre â and the stillness of that space becomes potent, because youâre present. Fully present.
In fact, itâs the very opposite of being weak and passive: when weâre open to receive, we build a space bursting with a life-force and potential for creative power, thought and manifestation. When we nourish and tend to our own needs, when we allow ourselves to rest, dream, sleep well, eat well, move our bodies in delicious and sensual ways, drink the water, walk in nature and do more things that bring us joy and fewer things that create anxiety, this potent space of receptivity becomes magnetic, our reality aligns with our frequency and we become fecund and fertile â and in this place? Anything becomes possible.
