Chapter 10 - Coaching Things and Stings

Olivia:

“Hey, Olly! I thought that you were on vacation at some fishing retreat in Northern Ontario. Now, I find out that you are a model. Mom told me last night that you decided to quit playing hockey so you can focus on your new modeling career?”

Talking to my brother on the phone is nothing compared to in person, but I will take it. The last time that I talked to him was right after his team was eliminated from the third round of playoffs. Between him losing halfway through the playoffs and me telling him that I accepted a job, I’m moving, and I’m dating my new boss, he’s been moody. He took Dad’s and Connor’s death hard and this is a lot of change for him.

Currently, I am at a writing seminar in Detroit, and on break, so I thought that I should call my brother. The conference is downstairs in the hotel so I really haven’t left the hotel since yesterday. I ate lunch with Richard, but I had a half hour to kill, so I came up to my suite.

“Very funny, sis. This modeling thing sucks. I am only doing it because my agent said these thousand-dollar suits are free if I model them,” he chuckles. “I’m glad that you called me back because between the fishing trip, that I was on for two weeks, and this modeling thing, that just ended yesterday, I realized that I haven’t talked to you in a while. Are you at home with your Russian? How are my future line-mates?”

I laugh because he calls Pavel, “my Russian.” He hasn’t met Pavel yet, but I think that they will get along great. He also thinks that he will be around long enough in the league to play with Aid and Em.

“For your information, I am on a break at a writing seminar in Detroit. Pav took Em and Aid to the zoo for the day so that I could give writing tips and show my process.”

“Really? That’s pretty cool. Do you have your security guards with you?”

I laughed again because the minute that I told him that Pavel has a team of security who also act as bodyguards and drivers for the arena, and hotel, and for him he thought that was hilarious. He said, “That man is the scariest man I have ever seen. Why in the hell does he need security?” Then I explained that it’s basically for show and he felt better.

This time, however, Pav has Ivan in full bodyguard mode for the conference.

“No, Mr. Smarty Pants, I don’t. Well, I did. Ivan is here with us and already scoped out the place this morning. I assured him that the zoo would be way more fun than sitting here all day, so, to my surprise, Pav agreed.”

“Ah. So, it's probably a good thing that you called because I was going to call you about a couple of things.”

“Okay?”

“First, when is that two-week camp? I was thinking of dropping in and helping you out.
