Chapter eleven

Chapter 11: Anna

Icouldn’t figure out what to do besides hug Lloyd.

Hearing how much he went through, and the baggage he endured made me want to take it all away, so he never had to worry anymore.

We stayed like this for a while before I pulled back, smiling slightly.

“Thank you for telling me, Lloyd. I feel like I understand you better now,” I admitted.

He nodded, turning away.

“Sorry, it’s a bit scary to admit this, but I’m glad that I did.”

“I am too. I feel like there’s’ a lot more to you than what you show the world. I want to be the one to understand that, and to be a part of your life.”

His words resonated within me. it reminded me of all the shit that my parents went through. The pain of what my father did, and how the law refused to protect my own mother.

I sighed, looking away as sadness filled my heart.

“What’s wrong?”

“Oh, it’s nothing. Just when I heard your story, it reminded me so much of my own,” I admitted.

I didn’t want to take his fire. Lloyd looked at me with a curious glance.

“Your story?”

I nodded.

“Yeah. Something similar happen to me. not that my dad went to jail, and I didn’t have losing s partner like that. But I did lose someone who mattered,” I replied.

It bothered me that I remembered this suddenly. The ache that sat within the bowels of my heart only grew stronger.

“What happened? I don’t mind listening to you if you want to talk about it,” he offered.

I hesitated. It wasn’t like I didn’t want to talk but it, but it also seemed inappropriate with all that Lloyd said.

“Well, I guess you can say we both lost someone because of the legal system.”

“How so.”

My throat felt dry once again. Facing this and telling him the truth felt so wrong and weird. I took a deep breath, knowing that I had to do this.

For the sake of my own peace of mind, and the happiness within my heart.

“Well, when I was a kid, my mom and I were always fighting. My dad was an alcoholic. Mom tried to keep it together, but she struggled. Those moments were what pushed my dad to tell a whole bunch of lies,” I started.

I remembered my father’s words. My hands tightened remembering it.

“What did he say?”

“He said my mom was unfitting during the proceedings, and how I was better off with him. he told a bunch of lies and the judge believe each of these. They took my mom away, and I ended up living with him.”

My heart skipped a beat remembering this. my father’s words, his actions against me, even the throwing of the drink hung over me.

“What did he do?”

“Well for starters, he threw a drink at me whenever I was late. He was abusive, both physically and verbally. The man didn’t care about anyone else but himself. I saw my mom at times, but it wasn’t enough. I missed her, but I never got that connection.
