Listen — don’t try to change the woman I happen to be

Hate me, leave me, love me, but don’t try to change me

Is my nature too aggressive, the strong black woman within me?

Or is my style too seductive, and you can’t handle what you see?

Is it the fact that I’m daring and bold enough to speak my mind?

Or is it the thought that my wisdom and beauty will only improve over time?

Is my maternal nature too calm and catering for you?

Or the fact that I put all my love and heart in everything I do?

No! I’m not intimidated by any woman or man

Because I know my Lord makes me all that I am

My beauty and charm are never on the surface and superficial

Yet, buried in me a heart and soul to love with the depths that I do

Why does it amaze you that I’m not conniving, shrewd, or spiteful?

Am I too witty and cheerful, or just too pleasant and delightful?

A woman of virtue, with great visions and definitely on the move

The creativeness of my mind allows me to forever evolve and improve

I’m a constant challenge and I may even change from day to day

But God has given me the most stable foundation to carry me along the way

Take me as I am I tell you, for I will be your greatest asset

For if you think I’m something now, you ain’t seen nothing yet!
