Chapter 9
Joe began to feel the fogginess lift with the brisk walk and water. Thoughts of how patients and offenders were treated in this state began to make him think of writing letters. Letters to politicians, newspapers, anything that would bring attention to the mess he felt he and Russ had fallen into.
But the train of his thoughts brought him to one thing: He was responsible. He was the one who binge drank and grew destructive, and Russ had tried to take his own life.
That last thought left Joe confused. Why was it illegal to die if you wanted to? Why did you get locked up for not wanting to be around any longer? Wasnât that a choice? Like choosing any other path?
Obviously not. The state didnât want you to die but didnât have the resources to keep people healthy either. Joe didnât know about Russâ insurance policy, but his deductable was so high, he could never afford the proper care. The institution they were in was court ordered, so neither he nor Russ were going to foot the bill, or so he hoped.
He also did not have a huge reserve of cash. He wasnât crazy enough to max out credit cards, but without the bartending money and tips? Joe was going to be hurting for cash quickly.
He noticed the nurse waving them inside.
âBack to the cave.â Joe shook his head.
âThink about it,â Russ said, âToday is Sunday. Only two days. Two. Think of two days out of a lifetime of days.â
âLove your optimism but the days here suck.â
They entered the dim hallway, and Joe said, âIâm going to shower and get my clothing laundered today.â
âGood idea.â
They headed to the room and Joe stripped as Russ watched. Joe tugged on his dick a few times to make Russ smile, but there was so much foot traffic in the hall, Joe slipped on the scrub bottoms and slippers before someone barged in.
As Russ undressed they heard that woman screaming again.
Russ gaped his jaw and then said, âAre you kidding me? She still hasnât figured out to shut the fuck up?â
Joe balled his clothing and tossed it on the bed, then slipped the hospital gown on, not tying it. âNot my problem.â
Joe was about to check to see if he had leftover shampoo in the wardrobe when he felt Russ press against him from behind. Joe smiled and looked over his shoulder. âI can feel your boner right through these thin pants.â
âI get so hot looking at you.â
âJesus. I want to be able to shower with you. I hate it here. Seriously. Why do they have to keep us until fucking Tuesday? Look at us. Weâre fine. If anything, theyâre medication and nauseating routines are making me frustrated.â
Russ hugged Joe from behind, kissing his neck. âBe calm. Okay? Or youâll end up like Ms Screamer out there. Get clean. Iâll get washed up, and weâll meet for a nice BJ exchange in the bathroom.â
âDeal.â
Russ released Joe and backed up allowing Joe to turn around.
