69.8 Mussaenda glabrata (Hook. f.) Hutch. ex Gamble

Local name: Gach ranitak

Common name: White lady

Botanical description: It is a shrub that grows up to about 2 m tall. The leaves are simple, opposite, and stipulate. The petiole is about 1 cm. The stipule is about 1 cm long and bifid. The blade is elliptic, green and glossy above, light yellow below, soft, 8–12 cm × 3–6.5 cm, with about 11 pairs of conspicuous secondary nerves, tapering at the base and acuminate at apex. The inflorescences are cymose and terminal. The calyx includes 5 linear sepals, which are about 8 mm long. The corolla is tubular, about 2–2.5 cm long, and develops 5 triangular lobes, which are bright orange. The fruits are oblong, green, fleshy, and about 1 cm long.

Medicinal use: jaundice, leprosy

Pharmacology: Extracts of the plant exhibited cytotoxic effects.627
