Sage

Minx and Vinciei helped her out of the pool, her body so weak from the burning in her veins she could barely stand. Kade hovered at the edge of the pool, his eyes flashing red as they tried to lift her up, but her legs and arms felt too heavy outside of the water.

Naru scooped her up, carrying her out of the pool and over to the map where the group gathered. She could hear Vinciei asking for a lounge chair and water before she came into view. Sage slumped against the Demon Hunter’s broad chest, feeling entirely drained.

“Hold still, let me heal you.” Vinciei murmured, pouring water over Sage’s chest. Spring water mixed with her gift. A dull white light glowed under her skin and Sage felt her power flowing through her body, seeking out the damage. Vinciei tutted, “Such rage. Only a Halifax could do this.”

Minx looked horrified, “Are you saying a Maiden attacked her?”

“I’m not sure. Sage, what did you see?”

“Through their eyes.” She said, sighing as her body slowly mended itself.

Vinciei snapped her hand back as if she were burned. “Through their eyes? You mean you were in their minds?”

“I think so.” She explained the places she saw, how she traveled. “I don’t remember if I said them out loud, it was all so fast.” She apologized.

“I didn’t see any of that.” Minx admitted, looking to Vinciei who shook her head.

“I only felt their presence.”

Sage groaned, “Then we need to try again and figure out where they are.”

“No,” Elinar said, “You marked them yourself.” The she-Elf pointed to the map, where four black marks had been burned into the animal skin.

“I did that?” Sage whispered.

“You didn’t say anything, but you reached out with your gift and burned those marks into the map.”

Vinciei studied the markings, muttering to herself as she did. “Blackwoods have always held a lot of power. Perhaps that is why you were able to see them, when we did not.”

Sage motioned for Naru to let her down, her body feeling strong enough to move again. She took her place next to Minx, eyeing the areas on the map. The first she noticed was a marking deep in the Kami region, or what was now known as the Scar.

“Here.” She said, pointing to the spot. “That makes sense. I saw burnt land and the Iron Mountains in the background.”

“A Kami still lives.” Vinciei said thoughtfully. “And in the region.”

“Or, we assume it’s a Kami.” Minx countered. “It could be any of them, but it’s a good chance this one is the Kami Maiden.”

“Then that would mean this is the Vizar Maiden.” Sage said, moving her finger to the spot at the top of the mountains. “I think I saw the city, the stone city and library.”

Minx blanched. “Isn’t that where the Hands have set up their headquarters?”

All three girls exchanged dark looks.

“That one will be hard.” Vinciei said softly.

Sage glanced down to the last mark, slightly larger than the others, nestled in the Twin Cities.
