CHAPTER 12

Dozens of police officers and local news crews were on Skyview High’s campus within the hour. It was breaking news across town and across the state. A widely loved, decorated history teacher and championship baseball coach, turned out to be a massive sexual predator and pedophile. It trended on all social media platforms as millions of people were posting and commenting on the horrors of the whole situation. It was already leaked that he had a giant collection of child pornography and that he had a hidden reputation of touching underage boys. Complete outrage was expressed at Skyview High’s administration for allowing him to teach and coach for as long as he did. Willow was doing her best to navigate through the fallout. I felt for her. It was a highly sensitive situation, and she simply didn’t know he was a predator. Many people didn’t. The scariest part about Mr. Griffin is how well he hid his true self from everyone.

A news reporter managed to record footage of Mr. Griffin being escorted into the police station while he was in handcuffs.

“Mr. Griffin! Is it true you inappropriately touched underage boys while coaching the baseball team?” The reporter asked.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry about it all. I shouldn’t have touched those boys. I let my desires get the best of me. I’m so sorry to my wife and my children. Please don’t hate me. I love you all so much! Please don’t hate me! Please!” Mr. Griffin sobbed.

The video was cut short after that. I couldn’t believe he had the nerve to feel remorse after everything he did. He wasn’t sorry. He was sorry he got caught. I was in the courtyard giving Omar a statement.

“Here’s the story, Sonya, if anybody asks. You saw him looking at the pictures of underage boys through his classroom window and he spotted you. That’s when he attacked you and threatened you to keep quiet. You then called me, and I had probable cause to search through his computers.” Omar said.

“That’s not exactly what happened. You’re okay not doing this by the book? I know how you are, and I respect how you work.” I said.

“These are special circumstances. The ends justify the means. Griffin is a monster from the deepest, darkest depths of hell. You did great work. No one needs to know the rest and no one’s gonna ask too many questions anyway. Griffin is a roasted turkey.” Omar said.

“I can live with that.” I said.

“I need a favor.” Omar said.

“What’s up?”

“I need you to talk to Jonathan Locke. He’s refusing to talk to us.” Omar said.

“You need to know about the murder weapon.” I said.

“We need to know what type of situation he was in. I don’t want him to get charged with accessory to murder and evidence tampering. He needs to know this is very, very serious. He was seen on video, hiding an alleged murder weapon.” Omar said.

“I’ll talk to him. Did you pull him?” I asked.

“He’s in Principal Jacobson’s office.
