Now you don't have to go out in the rain. Enjoy.

Love, Nicky

She picked up her phone and put Nick on FaceTime.

He was smiling when he answered. "Bae!"

She laughed. "Bae? That's new."

"Isn't that what the kids are saying? I'm trying to stay relevant."

"Okay. whatever. The espresso machine came today. Thank you."

"You're welcome. I like it because it has the coffee grinder built in. Only heathens buy ground coffee.”

"I am not a heathen, sir. I have a French press and a grinder."

His grin was infectious. "Good to know. I'm not in the habit of spending long weekends with heathens."

"We're still on for next weekend?"

"Bae, nothing can stop me. I'll be there Friday afternoon. I'll leave Monday night. I'm always working when I come to New York. I want to do some touristy stuff."

Mariah nodded. "I'll make it happen. You don't know how much that package brightened my day."

"What did Rich do now?"

"I can't give you any details, but he's being his usual asshole self. I seriously considered strangling him with my bare hands today."

Nick sighed. "You're too pretty for prison. They probably don't have good coffee, either."

"Yet another reason to remain a law abiding citizen. I will be so glad when my options vest."

"Then what? There's always the dream, Ry."

"I'm not sure I still have it in me."

His light brown eyes were intense. “You can do whatever you want.”

“You did what we dreamed of, Nicky. You cashed out and built your own company. I let the money entice me and built a company for a man I think is an idiot.”

“He is an idiot. You’re not. You can still cash out. If you want to start your own company, I’ll be your first investor.”

“Thanks.”

“I mean it, Ry. You’re one of the smartest people I’ve ever known. You know half this business is luck and connections. You can do it.”

“I appreciate the encouragement.”

Nick’s eyes lifted away from his phone, and Mariah heard a woman’s voice in the background.

“I’ll be right there,” Nick said. He turned his attention back to Mariah. “I’m sorry, I’m late for a meeting.”

“I understand. Go. At least one of us has a job they like.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to come out here?”

“I’m sure. But thank you for offering. You’d better go.”

“They can wait.”

“Go, Nicky. I’ll talk to you later.”
