They typed on social media that the system would never find Michelle Law guilty and complained that the system was biased against themselves. The internet was a problem for the justice system, a place where even the most absurd of voices could find a following.

The State's Attorney's Office felt that pressure.

They knew the outrage that would spill out onto the streets if they were lenient on their own.

Hunter stood, made eye contact with the jurors, and nodded. Five nodded in return. Standing behind the podium, Hennessy began his opening statement.
