To make the burgers:
6. Cook the bacon strips in the oven at 450°F until they are at your desired crispiness level and set aside.
7. Cook the SPAM® in a dry medium frying pan over medium heat until it reaches your desired level of crispiness.
8. Divide the ground beef into four portions and shape each portion into a patty. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Push a dent in the middle of each patty with your thumb to help them keep their shape while cooking.
9. Cook the burger patties in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 2 to 4 minutes per side, until they are cooked to your desired temperature (see cooking tips on page 11 for cooking temps). Alternatively, cook the burgers on an outdoor grill.
10. You can also grill the pineapple while the burgers are cooking. Simply add your pineapple slices to the grill and cook 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Set aside.
11. When burgers are almost ready, in the pan, top with a spoonful of the barbecue sauce and a slice of cheddar cheese. (Note: This will give the barbecue sauce and the cheese a chance to soak/melt into the meat.) Set the cooked burgers aside to rest while you prep the final ingredients.
12. Toast the Hawaiian bun halves.
13. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. (Note: You can use the same pan you cooked the burgers in for extra flavor.)
14. Crack the eggs into the skillet and fry until the whites are cooked through and yolks are slightly runny, 4 to 6 minutes.
15. To assemble, add the mustard to the bottom toasted bun, followed by lettuce, the burger patty (with the sauce and cheese), onions, bacon, SPAM®, egg, and pineapple. Enjoy the deliciousness that awaits you!
