Chapter Seven

—JINNY—

The museum was a madhouse of activities when they arrived. Every school and person in the city had donated their weekend to visit the exhibit. Jinny didn’t mind. How could she when the bustle of the crowd was the perfect excuse to stay close to her boys? No one noticed the hand Joel held or the one Eli had flattened lightly, but possessively against her lower spine. She felt blissfully surrounded and she didn't want it any other way.

“Do you think the entire museum is like this?” she shouted over the noise.

“The art gallery should be quiet,” Eli deduced. “We should check.”

At Jinny’s nod, they guided her through the maze of corridors, the stairs, and displays until they found the room dedicated entirely too faded renaissance paintings and the blissful silence it provided.

Art had never been something that interested her. While beautiful and historical, she had never been one to stand and stare at art pieces for no reason. They didn’t speak to her the way they did for some people. But it was peaceful and it was the only exhibit no one else seemed interested in visiting.

“How do you think they make it bumpy?” Joel squinted at the textured portrait of a woman sitting on the ruined remains of a broken fountain.

Jinny chuckled. “It’s textured and I have no idea.”

Joel straightened. “Thank God for Google.” He fished out his phone, swung it this way and that. “No signal.”

“Do you really need to know that badly?” Jinny teased.

“Yes!” He held it aloft. “How does a museum not have any signal?”

He wandered away from them, still holding his phone up to the ceiling.

Jinny laughed, but didn’t stop him.

She was still shaking her head in amusement when Eli slipped up behind her. His arms slid around her waist and locked at her middle. The heat of his chest cradled her spine as he folded her against him.

“I had a dream about you last night.” His warm whisper grazed the naked shell of her ear, but it was the taunting skim of his lip against skin that sent a violent tremor coursing through her. One she knew he had felt when his arms tightened. “Would you like to hear about it?”

Heart quickening to match the unsteady increase of her breathing, Jinny swallowed audibly before she could answer. “Yes, please.”

Her cheek to use his earlier teasing tickled a smile against her jawline, contradicting the low, guttural growl that vibrated the length of his chest to tickle her back. “Brat.”

Despite the chaos brewing deep inside her, Jinny giggled. She turned her head and was caught in the silvery storm of his eyes. He was so close, the scent of his mint toothpaste filled her senses, making her ache to taste him, to run her tongue along the seam of his bottom lip before begging for entrance. But he was talking, a fact that curbed her longing just long enough to focus.

“You were on my bed,” he was saying in that deep, husky murmur of his that made her stomach muscles clench.
