One song written for The Johnny Cash Show was “Man in Black. ” Cash, who had been wearing mostly black outfits for years, had previously given three reasons: it stayed clean longest, it was good for wearing in church, and it was easy to coordinate .

But in “Man in Black,” he claimed he wore black in remembrance of sorrow and injustice . The song’s title became one of Cash’s best-known nicknames.

However, Cash didn’t only wear black . As he once explained, “I wear black because I’m comfortable in it. But then in the summertime when it’s hot I’m comfortable in light blue . ”
