Hey beautiful. Cade said you were having a rough night. Are you okay?

Davis really is a nice guy. I wonder if he knows the truth about Cade and his past.

I’m fine handsome. Just re living that one year of college lol

We all do that sometimes. If you need me, I’m a phone call away.

Thanks.

I take a seat on a non-vomit chair and think. I watch Cade as he goes out to check on the laundry. What is so wrong about his past that he can’t share any of it with me? I should let it go, but for some reason I can’t. There’s something there and I may not need to know, but I sure as hell want to.

Cade comes back in clothed. He’s holding the rest in a ball up against his stomach.

“Want me to put this on your bed?” he asks, walking to my room.

This irritates me, so I get up and follow him.

I close my bedroom door. “What’s wrong with you?”

“Nothing, Jenna. You look a little better. I can go now.”

“If that’s what you want. Leaving now doesn’t mean you’re off the hook.”

“I’m not on any hook. I never will be. You don’t determine what I have to say and what I don’t. I’ve been honest with you, don’t push it.”

“What is there to push, if you’re being honest?”

The flash in his eyes is subtle, but I see it and smile.

His eyes turn angry. “Don’t do it, Jenna. You’ll only get yourself hurt.”

He walks past me faster than my eyes can keep up with and by the time I’m caught up, my front door is slamming. Men sure love to slam doors to this place.

I see both of my kid’s doors open.

I see Abby peek her head out. She looks towards the front door then over at me.

“Mom, what was that?”

“Nothing, Abs. Everything is fine.”

“Is Dad mad?”

“No. It’s okay, just go back in your room.”

She rolls her eyes and closes her door.

I turn my attention to my son. He has a lopsided grin.

“Did you turn him down, Mom?”

“Asher Scott! I told you we are not talking about that. Bye!”

He laughs as he closes his door. He’s so lucky I love him.

I text Nico and let him know I’m taking the day off and after he responds, I put my phone on silent and get comfortable in my bed.

Tomorrow is a new day.
