Today should have been the best day of Rhiannon’s life. She’d spent it in a studio, recording her song. They’d also dropped the news that she’d be flying back to Nashville at some point to record the rest of the album. How they were going to manage that when there wasn’t a break built into the tour schedule was beyond her.

By the time the car dropped Rhiannon off in Macon, it was seven o’clock. She actually stared in surprise when the car stopped. The driver already had the address in his navigation app when she climbed in, and she hadn’t thought to ask where they were going. It didn’t matter where the tour bus was parked as long as her bed was there.

But this wasn’t a parking lot or RV park or anything she expected. It looked like some sort of family fun center. Rhiannon stared at the driver as though he had the answer.

“We’re here,” the driver, who was a really personable guy named Willy, said. “No tipping allowed. Your manager handled everything. Good luck with your tour.”

That was it. Her goodbye. Rhiannon needed to get out of this car and go track down her group. But she couldn’t bring herself to move.

“It’s going to be okay.” That came from Willy, whose gaze had locked with hers in the rearview mirror. “The record label believes in you enough to pay me to bring you here. That means you have fans. People already love you. Go get ‘em.”

The fans weren’t what Rhiannon was worried about, but Willy couldn’t possibly know that. She’d opened up a little about how terrified she was every single time she stepped on a stage, and he’d been so reassuring.

And even though Willy hadn’t directly addressed her real fears, his words helped. They reminded her a record label believed in her. She had actual fans—or at least it seemed like she did. If she could handle stepping on a stage in front of thousands of people, she could certainly handle her attraction to Luke Kelly.

Thanking Willy, Rhiannon climbed out of the car, guitar in hand, and headed straight toward the building. Only once she was inside did it hit her that she should have knocked on the bus door and asked if she could store her guitar inside. Usually, the driver stayed with the bus while they all ate or whatever. Surely, someone was in there.

But when she stepped into the bowling alley area and her eyes finally focused, Rhiannon spotted the driver, along with Toad. Denny was seated next to the driver, both of them watching Toad, who was positioning himself to drop the ball.

If they weren’t with the bus, she was pretty sure no one was. She strode toward them, trying to look natural—well, as natural as someone could while carrying a guitar through a bowling alley.

“Look what the wind blew in,” Denny announced as she approached. “You want me to take that to the bus?”

“I’ll take it.” Toad, who had just tossed a gutter ball, walked toward her.
