Chapter Fifteen: Levi

The week seemed to have passed in the blink of an eye. Kevin had called me on the previous Friday, letting me know that he was taking a handful of weeks off work. At first, he said it was to help me, for which I immediately felt guilty. But after talking for a while, I realized his main motivation was to take some time to himself and recover a bit from his years of grinding day and night. I couldn’t blame him either. The man was a textbook workaholic.

However, I never expected him to ask me to go up to his seaside cottage for an entire weekend. First off, I didn’t know he had a seaside cottage in New Hampshire. And second, I knew he still wanted to take things slow. Sex was one thing, but spending every waking moment together for three days was a lot, considering we’d barely spent more than a night in each other’s company.

But I happily canceled my engagements and took a couple of days off to make the trip possible. He, of course, insisted on paying for everything the entire time since I wouldn’t let him pay me a stipend for hanging out with him. As much as I wouldn’t mind the money, I felt like it set a dangerous precedent for our relationship. I didn’t want him to think I was a gold-digger just looking for a dick to suck for a handout. Besides, I had some money stored away thanks to my gigs, so I would be fine. Granted, it was meant to replace my guitar with a more professional model. But that could wait for now. My guitar was just fine. I could always make more money.

So, over the past week, on top of being terribly excited about the trip, I spent most of my nights at Kevin’s house, recording more songs. We did a few more popular covers before moving into some of my original work. By the time we were done, we had nearly a dozen songs locked in and edited. Kevin said it was enough for a month or two of content, at the very least. Not to mention, all of them were sellable should the videos take off.

In fact, we were gonna post the first one tonight when we arrived at the cottage. And judging by the roads we were on, we weren’t far off.

“Have you ever been up to New Hampshire before?” Kevin asked as we turned onto another smaller road. Off to one side, I could see the ocean through the trees, the sun glinting off it in the distance. “I don’t know how much traveling you’ve done.”

“I think I’ve been in the state once by accident,” I chuckled. “My parents live on the outskirts of Boston in a neighborhood that used to be middle class.” I glanced over at him. “The housing crash really did a number on the neighborhood when I was a kid.”

“I bet.”

“It was nice before that. But it’s been going downhill ever since.
