Charlie

I watched as Hunter walked into our castle. It was actually small for a castle, and Grandma and uncle Steven only used a portion of the rooms. The others were closed off and never used. His eyes were huge as he looked around. I knew what he was thinking. He was thinking I was a princess who grew up in a castle. Why would I want to leave my country and this beautiful place?

“Damn, Princess, I didn’t know you lived in a real castle.”

“I didn’t live in a castle. I live in a two-bedroom condo,” I whispered into his ear. “I never liked living here. I’m sorry, that’s not nice of me, but I want a cozy home that I can decorate myself. And since I will be your wife, I can’t wait to decorate our home.” Hunter pulled me close and kissed me.

“It’s time that house was redecorated. Where is your condo?”

“In town.”

“We’ll stay one night here, and then we go to your condo until we leave in a week. When are you going to marry me?”

“Next month, that will give me time to arrange everything.” Hunter held me around the waist and nibbled my neck. He was so careful not to touch my back. I thought I wouldn’t make it out alive this time, but when I heard your voice, I knew the angels had brought you to me.

“Do we have to go all the way in? I want to have you all to myself.”

“We’ll say hi, then I need to lay down.”

“I wish I could carry you. I don’t want you overdoing it.”

“I won’t overdo it. I have you with me to make sure I don’t do anything I’m not supposed to.”

“Oh, Charlotte, I’m so happy you are alright. We never have to worry about anyone kidnapping you or trying to kill you ever again. That woman was caught. I couldn’t believe it was Marcella. Her poor children.” She put her arm around me, and I sucked in my breath. “Are you okay?”

“You can’t touch her back. Charlie’s entire body is in pain. She would love to talk to you, but she needs to lay down. We will leave for her condo tomorrow. Charlie has agreed to become my wife. I promise to take excellent care of her. You are welcome to stay with us anytime you come to America.”

“Thank you, dear. I’m glad she found someone who loves her as much as you do.”

“I’ll always love her.”

As we went up to my room, Hunter continued looking around. “Are these real?” he asked, looking at some swords from the fifteenth century.

“Yes, my grandfather left me these. I’ll leave my things here. They don’t go with our beach house. I hate to tell you this, but if my uncle doesn’t have a son, this will all be mine.”

“I’ll tell him he better get busy. Because this place is not where I want to live, no matter how much history it has. I won’t mind visiting and checking it out, though.
