Kissing Benjamin was the last thing Krista expected to do. And yet, there she was. Smooching her boss like she was the next subject posted in a gossip column. She could just picture the headlines: The Nanny Scandal: Los Angeles woman seduced by grieving Billionaire while posing as a Nanny.
Yet, Krista did steal a few glances at him while wrestling with the urge to make a move. So, she was not entirely innocent in the matter. And his lips, so soft! A stark contrast to the scratchy stubble tickling her cheeks. He kissed like a man who knew exactly what he was doing. It sent tingles up her spine just to replay it in her mind.
She slid her sandals on, picked up the baby monitor and led Benjamin out the front door. The sky was so clear, it seemed like every star in the solar system was on show. Sparkling and twinkling against a navy-blue backdrop. The ocean rolled in and out, letting off a gentle roar. Like the sound of a sleeping dragon.
âJust look at that moon,â she said with a sigh, cradling her mug of hot cocoa. She looked up at the giant orb glowing among the stars and bathed in its ethereal rays. Benjamin stood next to her, his face illuminated. The goofy smile plastered on his face had her smirking.
âDonât do that,â she said coyly, turning away. Benjamin touched his finger under her chin, and she looked back at him.
âDo what?â he asked, his deep voice rumbling from her chest to her toes.
âStaring at me. We came out here to look at the moon.â
âI canât see it.â
âItâs right there.â
âNope, still canât see it.â
Krista giggled. She stepped out of her sandals and twirled on the spot, then took a long sip of her drink.
âTell me about England.â
Benjamin turned thoughtful as he looked out at the sea.
âItâs cold and wet. I donât know what else to say.â He chuckled and downed his drink in one.
âDid you even taste that?â Krista asked. She set their mugs down and propped the baby monitor up in the sand. Benjamin stooped down and took a handful of sand, then let go.
It spilled through his fingers like powder.
âBritish sand is nothing like this,â he said. Krista dropped to her knees to join him and eyed his broad hand as he scooped up another fistful of sand.
âItâs not?â
Benjamin shook his head, his dark hair ruffling in the sea breeze. The moonlight reflected in his eyes as he looked at her.
âNo. Itâs firm and moist. And sometimes the humidity is so high, itâs like breathing in syrup, especially when you come from a high altitude.â
Krista hummed as she considered it. She had never been to England before, but she imagined tiny houses, narrow streets and lots of rain. Syrup air and moist sand was a new concept.
âDo you live by the beach?â she asked, taking another sip of her drink, which was now tepid.
âNo, Iâm in the country. Itâs just green for miles and miles. Huge oak trees, country lanes, little villages.
