WILTON

The living room in Eric Stapp’s flat was dominated by a large swastika flag hanging on one of the walls. A little over the top, Nigel Wilton thought. Counterproductive to the general aims of their mission, a symbol that was likely to alienate the mainstream. He had suggested as much to Eric when he first saw it, but Eric had just raised his eyebrows incredulously and said, “It makes a statement.” Each to their own, thought Wilton. It would have been hypocritical of him to try to restrict Eric’s freedom of expression.

“While the tone of the recent article is upsetting, we must look at it in perspective,” Wilton said. Around him, in the living room, sat the members of the NZNS — New Zealanders for National Solidarity. An excellent group, Wilton thought. He had enjoyed getting to know them over the last few weeks.

“In truth, any publicity for our cause is better than none at all. While the article was undoubtedly biased, it still may expose people to the fact that there are differing points of view on the historical verifiability of the Holocaust.”

A few members of the NZNS nodded their heads. Others looked a little dubious. Wilton could understand the sentiment.

Wilton is an associate of several neo-fascist groups based in Australia and New Zealand, including New Zealanders for National Solidarity, a splinter group of the better-known New Zealand Patriots’ League. Eric Stapp, the leader of the NZNS, has been convicted twice for assault, in the Palmerston North District Court.
