CHAPTER 16

OLIVIA

There are two possibilities I consider as I sit in the passenger seat of a silver Audi R8, one that looks just like mine with the exception of the color, with my legs curled under me:

1. Drake planned to stop in Las Vegas all along, and I played right into the plan with my excitement at the prospect of a legitimate casino adventure.

2. This car is stolen.

The safest answer is no answer. If anyone were to check the security footage from the casino, they would see zero signs of me struggling as Drake and I walked side-by-side into the parking garage and ascended to the waiting car on the top floor. I'm pretty sure that means I could be on the hook as an accomplice if he's caught with a stolen car.

The idea of him manipulating me doesn't sit well with me either, so it's a lose/lose situation if I dare ask. Better to sing quietly along with the radio as eighties rock keeps us company for miles and miles on the highway.

"You have a good singing voice. Surprised they don't have you showing that off so you can be out flaunting what a triple threat you are," Drake comments quietly. I cut my singing and turn to him curiously.

"Triple?"

Drake smirks, and my stomach twists. If it weren’t for the crease between his brows, he would almost look carefree. And this version of Drake? This version of Drake could be the easiest to catch the wrong feelings for. "I've seen some reruns of you on that dance show from a few years ago."

I barely manage to hold back a groan. "I only made it like two episodes before getting voted off."

"Eh, some people have no taste."

Something flutters inside of me, and for once, it's not the baby moving. Yikes. I clear my throat and carefully redirect my thoughts to something that might actually help me in this bizarre scenario I've found myself in.

"Hey, do you think maybe I could use that phone to see what the press is saying?" I ask. When he doesn't respond immediately, I rush to add, "I've worked really hard to build my career, Drake. If someone leaked the news that I left with you, I need to know and start considering how we frame things to protect my professional reputation."

He glances over at me and shakes his head.

I let the silence hang this time while I wait for a response. After a moment, when I realize one still isn't forthcoming, I wring my hands in my lap.

"Don't bullshit me, angel."

I startle at his sudden, harsh tone. "What? I'm not."

Drake huffs a laugh. "Maybe endearing yourself to me would work if this were a movie scene, but saying we and choosing your words carefully about the fact that I stole you out from under your team... I'm not going to let my guard down just because you paint a pretty picture of us being a team. I'm sure you're plotting your escape just as intensely as I plotted to make sure that would be an impossible task to execute.
