Chapter Twelve

The odious concierge having taken the carriage to the main lodge, Agony followed Pain and the plastic garbage bag full of electronics out of the cottage and down to the dock. Walking to the far end of it, he flung the offending equipment as far out into the lake as he could. They watched as the bag landed in the water, bobbed for a couple of minutes, and sank.

“You always have to remember to poke holes in the plastic,” he explained. “Otherwise, the damn bags will simply float and float and float.”

“I’ll have to remember that. Body-part disposal 101. Do you think you got all the bugs out of the cottage?”

“Hell if I know for sure,” he admitted. “I think I did but I wouldn’t bet against even the bugs out here being bugged.”

“Now that’s a reassuring thought.”

They turned toward home not quite sweet temporary home.

“I think I found them all.” Pain sighed and hoped he was right. “Because if I didn’t, we may as well put an end to the op right now. We need to be able to talk and not as Dick the dick and Sheri.”

“We’ll have to trust that you did.” Agony didn’t doubt that he had. She hadn’t even thought to sweep for bugs.

Back in their cottage, hoping that all the surveillance devices were removed, they decided now was the time to find out if they could talk freely. If they couldn’t, the entire op would come crashing to a sudden stop and it would be best to know that as soon as possible.

“I have never felt so icky in my life.” She was the first to speak. “I’ll take the main bedroom and a quick rinse-off shower. See you in ten.”

She lugged her suitcase into her room and true to her word, was back in ten minutes, wearing another casual outfit that both the twins at the Syeni Boutique had raved over. The ten minutes gave him the time to haul his suitcase to his room and return and start scanning.

“That was quick,” he observed as she joined him.

“Why waste water when all I needed was a quick rinse? Did you find anything interesting?”

“You tell me.” He handed her a laminated tri-fold brochure of activities that had been compiled to help them decide which organized activities they would be interested in.

“Huh.” She studied it with a small frown. “Nothing is listed here for when the sun is rising or high in the sky.”

“You noticed that too?”

“Munchies at midnight.” She read parts of the menu aloud. “After dinner delights. Sundown-pants down—and what the fuck is a Tantric Banquet?”

“If you have to ask, you don’t want to know,” Pain replied.

“I know what fucking tantric means.” She scowled and shook her head. “It’s the banquet part I’m confused about. Does it mean that instead of chicken wings, it’ll be a table spread with deep-fried thumbs and assorted dipping sauces?”

“Your guess is as good as mine,” was the only answer Pain could come up with. “I’ll take a quick rinse-off shower and then maybe we should head to the pool.
