SOTTO I RIFLETTORI
The media glare, the belch heard round the world
Gascoigne rarely dealt well with authority. A psychologist might suggest that this was the natural result of a combustible relationship with his mother, with whom Gascoigne remembers having blazing rows that often included physical violence. He also witnessed domestic violence between his siblings, and regularly received the slipper treatment when misbehaving.
Playing football was Gascoigneâs release from the difficulties of his childhood, but the reality of professional sport is a world away from the idyll of kicking a ball around for pleasure.
