Liam

What the actual fuck.

What the fuck!

I can’t believe she wanted to go back to her house. After the week we had, she wanted to be alone. I’m so fucking pissed.

I can’t stand drama. Bullshit games that women play. I looked in the mirror and saw her expression as I hauled ass away from her house. What the fuck did she expect? I’ve had an incredibly shitty time, and she expects me to cater to her. No fucking way.

I start driving home, but I don’t want to go there. I’ll just be more pissed. So I head to Peaks Bar, texting Owen and Nathan via Siri that I’m going there if they want to meet up. I need a drink.

About ten minutes after I get to the bar, Owen shows up. I’ve already downed two fingers of whiskey. The familiar burn of the whiskey has loosened me up and dulled a little of the fire I felt in my gut only moments before.

“What crawled up your ass, man?” Owen drawls as he sits next to me at the bar, motioning to the bartender for a beer.

“Liv and some bullshit attitude she pulled on me today. This is why I don’t do relationships,” I mutter. Owen doesn’t say anything, and I turn toward him to find him studying me closely.

“I’m going to need more information,” he says. I sigh.

“I got a package last weekend. Turns out it was from my stepdad,” I explain, and Owen’s eyes widen. “He delivered it directly to my house, and Liv answered the door. I was at work. Liv didn’t know who he was.”

“What was in the package?” Owen asks.

“A fucking reminder of my past,” I state, malice evident in my voice. “He sent me my favorite stuffed animal as a kid, one he took away from me as punishment and told me he burned.”

“Woah. That’s fucked up,” Owen murmurs.

“Yeah. At the bottom of the package was a letter.”

“Oh shit. What did it say?” he asks.

I shake my head, pulling the sealed bag out of my jeans pocket.

“I haven’t opened it yet. I don’t know if I’m ready to open it.”

Owen sits silently next to me, mulling over what I’ve just told him.

“How did Liv react to this?”

“About what?”

“The letter,” he says, rolling his eyes at me.

“She doesn’t know about the letter. Only the stuffed animal,” I admit. Oh shit. She doesn’t know about the letter. I didn’t tell her.

“Why didn’t you tell her?”

“I’m not sure,” I admit.

“So why are you pissed at her?”

I’m suddenly acutely aware of how I treated her. “Fuck,” I mutter under my breath. “I don’t even know why I’m mad at her.”

“Sounds to me like you’re pissed at your situation, and you took it out on her for no fucking reason, man. That’s fucked up, Liam,” Owen states pointedly. I nod, chagrined. He’s right. I fucked up. “What did you think she’d say when you told her it was some kind of letter from your stepdad?”

“I don’t know. Maybe she’d want me to open it right then.
