David was a good actor. He had to be to live with his bitch of a mother.

But the guy who showed up at his door caught him completely unaware with his bullshit about buying the Nighthawk.

Didn’t get a name, check his ID, David thought, belly churning.

“David.”

Her voice triggered a spasm of nausea as always.

“Yes, mother?”

“I want you to sell that dreadful machine as soon as possible.”

“Not yet, mother. I need it for business.”

“Yes, business,” she sniffed, appearing in the doorway like a wraith, “a business with only one client.”

“I’m leaving now, mother, can I get you anything?”

“Cigarettes.”

“You know what Dr. Burnett said.”

“I’ve outlived two doctors. Now will you do as I ask?”

“Of course, mother.”

Anything to hasten your fucking demise.

It was a short, refreshing ride to Rinner’s. By the time he arrived the nausea had subsided but the fear lingered. How in hell had this guy connected him to the girl? Who was he?”

Lowering the kickstand he looked across the lot and saw the others. Immediately his fears ebbed. The guy was fishing. How could he possibly know? He felt stronger in the company of his comrades, his fellow bikers.

Confidence restored he went into the diner for his usual BLT, apple pie, and coffee.

Nothing to be afraid of, he reminded himself. There was no way anyone could find out. He was protected. Big time.

Over his second cup he made plans. He would ride up to his hideaway in the hills and have a long visit with his harem.
