Beaune

19 km (12 miles) south of Nuits-St-Georges, 40 km (25 miles) south of Dijon, 315 km (197 miles) southeast of Paris.

Beaune is sometimes considered the wine capital of Burgundy because it is at the heart of the region’s vineyards, with the Côte de Nuits to the north and the Côte de Beaune to the south. It’s also a popular spot for festivals, with top draws including the International Festival of Baroque Opera in July, Jazz à Beaune in September, and the wine-themed Les Trois Glorieuses in November. That combination makes Beaune one of Burgundy’s most visited communities. Despite the hordes, however, it remains a very attractive provincial town, teeming with art aboveground and wine barrels down below.
