Chapter 16

Silas

My body moves after Willow, not even waiting for a signal from my brain. It's like it has a mind of its own. Callum senses what I'm about to do and gently places his hand on my shoulder and shakes his head. I shake mine at the same time.

The only thing I want to do is run after my girl and show her how sorry I am, and what she means to me. But I honestly believe now that I fucked up enough. I've got to give her time and space, dammit.

The guys and I are still standing in the surveillance room just looking around. All of the sudden, Thorn starts to chuckle which causes a ripple effect.

“Damn Silas, you’re girl is crafty. She got away on her own from the new head Mafia guy.”

We all chuckle louder, “yeah, Willow is good.” That makes an unsettling feeling go through me. What if she didn't get away? We would still be here doing all this shit trying to get her out of that monster’s hands.

I look around spotting my phone and pick it up off the desk. I need to have a conversation with Lucien and who knows how it'll go.

I walk through the Milano mansion, making my way outside. Everybody is in good spirits now, even the guards are laughing and talking. Well, that's what happens when the main boss doesn't have to come back and declare war. Nobody wants to go to war.

Some of these guys like fighting, it's in their blood, they've been doing this for years. But I know personally that none of them want to see their brothers die, or even get wounded. In all honesty, in the Mafia this is a very good day.

It will be an even better day once Logan is basically dethroned and taken off his fucking pedestal, brought back down to earth.

Taking a deep breath, damn it I shouldn't be scared or even nervous to make this call. I only need to take a damn breath when I'm about ready to get into a fight or do business for the Vittori's.

It's all about a woman.

“Silas,” Lucien answers on the second ring. He doesn't sound happy, like all the other guards, he sounds exhausted.

“Hey Lucien.”

“So, how's my girl?” Lucien asks. It causes me to chuckle which causes him to growl. We are both so enamored by her.

“She’s still a badass sir.” Even as I say it, it sounds like I might be joking but it's the total honest truth, my girl is a badass.

“How is her mental state?” His voice is quieter, more concerned.

“Honestly, I'm not sure. Right after she was done on the phone with you and explaining everything to us, she went up to her room. I guess she hasn't been sleeping at all, well, she was up all night.”

I can practically see Lucien nodding to the phone as he says, “yes, that makes sense.”
