Lex

When the sun pours through the curtains the next morning, it's like I'm coming out of a fog. I don't even remember falling asleep. But here I am, well rested and ready to start the day. My nose is filled with Hannah's scent, and it wakes me up completely. She's still laying on my chest, softly snoring, and I tighten my grip around her.

I never want to let her go. I want her to be mine, to be with me always.

The Clutch may call it mating lust, but deep down, I know it's something else, something more, something stronger. It's not just lust I feel toward her, though I feel that too.

My dragon roars inside of me, begging to be let free, begging to feel her against his scales. I want to take things slow with her first, not get myself too invested. Because, for all I know, in a couple days I could be back on the road with her still here. As much as I want to be with her, there's no way I can stay in a town like this for very long.

Small towns make for great stop overs. They're horrible places to live for people like me. Everyone knows everyone in these towns, always staying in each other's business. For a guy who doesn't age, doesn't get sick, and on occasion turns into a mythical creature, it's Hell.

Now, if Hannah wants to come along with us, to travel the country, then I'm sure as Hell not going to say no. Maybe then I'll tell her all the things going through my head, let her meet my full dragon face to face. But for all I know, she enjoys living in this town and doesn't want to live on the road, never settling down, never staying anywhere for more than a week.

With a sigh, I close my eyes and try to push those thoughts out of my head. There will be plenty of time to discuss all of that later. I just want to relax and bask in the warmth she radiates, to enjoy her scent and her soft skin pressed against mine. The future will still be there in a couple days. I just need to focus on the present.

I keep my eyes closed, though I don't drift back to sleep, until Hannah stirs. She looks up at me, blinking the sleep out of her eyes. "Morning," she says, her voice still a bit slurred from the sleep.

"Good morning, beautiful."

Hannah giggles at the comment but says nothing. She just snuggles up even tighter against my body. "This is nice. I can't remember ever waking up in a man's arms before."

"Well, we might have to see about making that a habit," I tease. "Would you like me to make you breakfast again?"

Hannah nods, smiling up at me. "That would be amazing. And then I need to go shopping to get some stuff for the cookout tonight."

"Would you like me to go with you, keep you company?" Part of me just wants to spend time with her.
