God Battle

Krom laughed at Grim’s challenge. His sword never stopped, the whistle as it cut through the air broken only by squelches and squeaks as the edge passed through knights and pikeman.

Grim grew another half meter as he approached the god until he could look down on Krom. As he grew, so too did the knights and pikemen around him. “I’ve got the little hero,” yelled Grim. He pointed to the troops hiding behind Krom. “Focus on them!”

Grim roared and the already swollen knights and pikemen grew a bit more. Kavi hoped the bloodlust would counteract Krom’s own shout long enough for them to win this thing.

Krom answered with his own roar, growing until he stood eye to eye with the armored Grim.

The two heroes closed with a crash. Grim took the first sweeping swing of Krom’s two handed blade on both axes. He grunted with the effort and they stood eye to eye, leg muscles straining as they pushed against each other. Neither gained ground.

Krom jumped back, spinning the huge sword around his body to eviscerate a handful of knights and pikemen who tried to slip around behind him.

Grim charged, both axes high overhead.

Krom’s spinning blade swept towards Grim’s midsection.

Instead of parrying, Grim dropped to his knees mid-charge, sliding along the snowy, muddy ground. He leaned his head way back and the god’s sword passed a hairsbreadth over the faceplate of his helm. Grim sprang up and feinted a swipe with his left axe, requiring the god to twist his body to the right, where Grim’s other axe whistled in.

Krom moved impossibly fast as he shifted his weight again. The strike which should have disembowled him, left only a superficial furrow of red along the god’s belly.

Grim followed up with three fast sweeping strikes to Krom’s right side.

The god avoided all of them, the last swing taken on the hilt of his sword. Krom hooked the pointed butt of the axe on the elaborate hilt of his sword. He twisted, ripping the weapon from Grim’s hand.

The damage had been done however. Grim was now behind the god and so were half of Grim’s bloodlust swollen troops.

Grim ignored the weak strikes from the pitiful remains of the gods’ army. They ricocheted harmlessly off his armor. One of his swollen knights reached his fallen axe and tossed it his way. Grim snatched it from the air. The man paid for it with his life as Krom’s sword swept in an arc, decapitating the knight and two others.

The troops who avoided the whistling blade wreaked havoc on Krom and Astra’s ranged troops. There were only a handful of the enemy troops left. Kavi hoped that when the last of them fell, they’d walk victorious from this challenge.

Kavi lent his haste to the troops tracking the last of the enemy. The sooner those men were eliminated, the better.

Krom and Grim faced off again. Grim dodged and parried blows which came way faster than should have been possible with a weapon that size. During one of these furious exchanges, a knight managed a lucky cut which sliced across Krom’s hamstring.
